It seems so long ago when Quiksilver’s Young Guns II came out. I guess because it was. But there was one thing from the second flick featuring Quiksilver’s best groms tripping out with Kelly Slater that really stuck. That thing was Julian Wilson’s surfing.
He has been in the spotlight enough since then, competing in a couple CT events and popping up in a couple videos. But the potential that he showed in the second Young Guns seems to have flown under the radar.
This is probably because Quiksilver is a couple years into the making of his own feature film, Scratching the Surface.
The interesting thing about the crazy anticipation for this movie is that it isn’t just his surfing that has me so hyped on it. My anxiety actually comes from the reaction to another groundbreaking movie that came out at the end of last year that we all know as Modern Collective.

Julian’s signature trick, the Sushi Roll.
After maybe the tenth time watching Dane, Jordy and crew do things on surfboards I had never seen before, I remembered Julian’s part from Young Guns II and realized he was missing a part in Modern Collective.
It is for this reason that I can’t wait for the release of Scratching the Surface. Quiksilver is always pretty good at pumping out quality productions (take their Cypher Vision videos for a recent example), Young Guns II was even ahead of its time. But from the looks of this short teaser for their latest endeavor, they may be stepping up the game even more.
